“I’m writing this letter to thank Prevent Blindness Texas and AEG Vision for their kindness in giving me a voucher for an eye exam and glasses, it has made a great difference in my life. About two years ago my husband retired, he got Medicare, and I lost coverage. I thought of getting a part-time job but to qualify for medical benefits I had to work full-time, which I was not able to do for various reasons. I love to read, write, and learn, so being able to read is very important. For the past two years I have been wearing the same glasses. About 10 months ago I started to notice I couldn’t read as long as I used to, I will get really tired and sleepy, sometimes I will get a headache. Now with my new glasses I’m able to read for much longer periods of time without getting tired or sleepy and for me that’s awesome!! I am deeply grateful for the work each and everyone who made this program possible.”

“I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The disease affected my eyesight, making it difficult for me to see through my old pair of glasses. My old pair were broken, and I used glue to hold them together. Currently, I am unemployed and have no health insurance. Due to my impaired vision I had to pause my job search. Recently, I had an appointment with my nutritionist and saw there was a notice for free glasses. I applied and was approved to receive a voucher for a new pair of glasses. Now I can resume my job search. Thank you, Prevent Blindness Texas!”

“I am currently a nursing student, and the need for glasses is important. Because I am in school, I’ve had to work less hours, and I’ve found it difficult to be able to afford an eye exam and glasses. When I heard about this program, I figured it was worth a shot. Now, I was able to get an eye exam and the glasses that I need to be successful in class and in my career as a nurse.”
